Some of the loveliest Rhodopean spruce forests are in the Tamrash reserve area. Many wild pigs, does and deer live here. This is a precondition for the large number of wolves in the region. However, the real wealth of the area is the number of bears, unfortunately responsible for great damages to the stock-breeders. Tamrash is named after the homonymous village, whose inhabitants left in panic during the Balkan War in 1912. After that the village was set on fire by the inhabitants of Perushtitsa, because the people of Tamrash took part in the Perushtitsa slaughter during the April Revolt. The Tamrashians ruled over the whole mountain down to the Greek border. They were proud and rebellious mountain people. During the whole period, the region between the rivers of Vucha and Chaia, was called “Tamrash Republic”. The foundations of only about 300 houses are all that can still be seen today, but apart from them, there are two graveyards, used from XVI to XX centuries, and they are really interesting to visit and explore. Their gravestones are true cultural monuments. Unfortunately, now the whole place is overgrown by a centuries-old forest.
The highest peak in the region is Modar, from where you can see everything spreading down to Rila, Pirin, Stara Planina, and to the south the eyes pass over the countless mountain folds, and reach the Greek mountains. The well-preserved parts of an ancient Thracian road from the 1st century B.C., lay a hundred meters below the peak. This is a continuation of the road from Persenk.

Rodoplarin en guzel cam ormanlarindan biri Tamras bolgesindedir.Burda bi cok yaban domuzu ve geyikler yasamaktadir.Bu da buyuk sayida kurtlarin yasamasina vesile olmakatadir.Ama bolgenin asil zenginligini ayilar olusturmakatdir ve malesef hayvancilik icin buyuk bi sorundur. Adini Tamras koyunden almaktadir,koyluler panik icinde onu 1912 balkan savasinda onu terkettiler. Ondan sonra koy Perushtitsa halki tarafindan yakildi intikam olarak cunku Tamrash halki Perushtitsa halkinin katliamina katildigi icin. Dagin altindaki yunanistan sinirina kadar tum bolgeyi tamraslilarin egemenligindedir. Vuca ve Chaia nehri arasindaki bolge "Tamras cumhuriyeti"olarak anilmaktadir. Onu olusturan 300 evi halen gorebilirsiniz ayrica orda XVI,XX yuzyilina at iki mezar bulunmaktadir.
Bu mezarlar gercek bir tarihi yerdir. Malesef bugun tum bolge ormanlik alana donmustur. Bolgenin en yuksek dagi Modardir ordan Rila,Pirin ve Stara Planina ve kuzeye dogru yunan daglarina kdar gorebilirsiniz. Orda M.O. 1 yuzyilda yapilmis eski trakya yolunu gorebilirisniniz. Bu yol Persenk yolunun devamidir.
